We all dream of beautiful, flawless skin. We wish to eliminate any visible signs of sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and sunspots. Up until now, this involved various treatments that required extensive downtime afterward. However, with the introduction of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), this ideal look is much easier to achieve, and you can do it with minimal downtime!

Collagen Induction Therapy is also known as micro-needling, Dermapen micro-needling, or Dermapenning. In theory, it works similarly to the Fraxel or CO2 laser to treat fine lines, acne scars, traumatic scars, stretch marks, large pores, under-eye circles, crow’s feet, wrinkles, and sunspots. The Dermapen contains 11 small needles that cause controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which in turn stimulates collagen and elastin production. As the skin repairs itself, wrinkles appear softer, scars become less obvious, and pores tighten. The treatment can be performed on almost any area of the body.

How Does It Work?

Dermapen’s sterile needle-tip contains 11 tiny micro-needles that create channels or controlled micro-injuries to the skin to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a uniform basket-weaving pattern between the collagen and elastin, which causes wrinkles to appear softer, scars, less obvious, and pores tighter.

Creating microchannels also allows a direct route for the absorption of topical gels, creams, and serums. There is only a small window of opportunity to apply these nutrients (15-60 minutes post-treatment). So, immediately following your Dermapen treatment, a Vitamin C serum is applied which will enhance the effects of the Dermapen by penetrating the deeper layers of tissue.

The significant advantage over the Fraxel or CO2 lasers is that downtime is minimized because the Dermapen’s unique, uniform needles, do not create superficial burns to the skin. After a Dermapen treatment, your skin may have a light pink hue that subsides in about 2 hours.

Is It Painful?

The feeling associated with micro-needling is similar to a regular microdermabrasion facial. there are areas, however, that are more sensitive than others. prior to the treatment, a numbing cream is placed on the face to help reduce any occurrence of discomfort. while the thought of needles on your face may sound scary, there is minimal discomfort associated with the procedure.

What Is The Downtime?

Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a pinkness to the skin, similar to a sunburn. The total healing time depends on the condition being treated and the depth of the procedure. It is important to follow post-procedure instructions to ensure that you experience the best results. Most importantly, because you will be more sensitive to the sun, you must avoid direct sunlight for 48 hours after treatment and SPF should be used for at least the next two weeks.

When Will I See The Results?

Immediately after your treatment, you will see an immediate glow to your skin. However, the body’s healing response actually takes upwards of 4 to 6 weeks. This means that you will notice a continued improvement in your skin over the next several weeks. The area being treated and the extent of the condition of the area being treated determines how many treatment sessions you will need and when you will see optimal results.

Do You Do The “vampire Facial” Or Use Protein-rich Plasma (Prp)?

At Elysium Aesthetics and Vein Care in Paramus, we do not believe in using Protein Rich Plasma (PRP). While some argue that using your blood plasma is beneficial because there is the least chance of you reacting to its use, there is some concern over its use. Blood contains inflammatory markers. When it is withdrawn and spun down for the platelets, the inflammatory markers are still present. When you apply the plasma back to the skin, you are reintroducing that inflammation to an area that is also inflamed. Instead, we use a Vitamin C-containing serum by Environ, which not only refreshes and energizes skin but also improves the appearance of any uneven skin tones.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Individual results always vary. However, most clients require between 2 and 3 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. The beauty of the results is that once you achieve the endpoint, you desire, the results are permanent. The repaired collagen and elastin maintain their repaired, basket-weaved, structure which persists over time.
